Auction
The auction is always one of the highlights of Day of Champions. Each of the riders gives up their time to come along to the main stage and auction off their own memorabilia to the highest bidder. Whichever rider is your favourite there is bound to be a lot for you. Some of the items from 2007 included leathers from Edwards, Pedrosa, Guintoli, Capirossi, Nakano, de Puniet, Tamada, West and Hofmann. Edwards also sold one of his helmets, as did Checa, Vermeulen, Hopkins, Stoner and Melandri. Elias and Barros both gave a set of boots to the auction.
2007 saw Nicky Hayden being joined on stage by England football star, Michael Owen, who both sold limited edition watches from official MotoGP timekeepers, Tissot. Hayden also threw in an impromptu lot, selling the watch off his wrist.
Rossi items were in strong demand, with the biggest total coming from a set of five prints charting his career, which raised £6,000. In total, Rossi’s items made £19,050.
Each year there are also special experiences on offer, including VIP passes and hospitality tickets. In 2007 Rizla Suzuki MotoGP gave one lucky bidder the chance to join the team for Friday practice at the British GP, as well as enjoy VIP hospitality during the weekend.
The atmosphere is always electric at the auction, and the riders all enjoy getting into the spirit of the occasion. So whether you are determined to get you hands on a pair of MotoGP leathers, or you just want to see how much people are willing to pay for their hero’s signed boots, the Day of Champions auction is a must see event. And, of course, you will be helping to support Riders’ lifesaving work in Africa.
