Riders insists that every health worker that we mobilise must wear full protective clothing when using a motorcycle. Road accidents are one on the ten biggest killers in sub-Saharan African. This is why road safety is at the heart of Riders’ work. So often health workers are given motorcycles without the correct protective gear. This can lead to health workers seriously injuring themselves and communities being left without access to health care.
Please note that the last day for delivery in time for Christmas in the UK is Monday 21st December. The Riders for Health office will be closed from 24th December and will open again on Monday 28th December.
A well maintained motorcycle will allow each health worker to reach up to five times more men, women and children with regular health care.
“Before we had mobility it was extremely difficult. You could visit the villages at best once a month. The availability of the motorcycle affects every bit of the work. Now I can be available to my communities 24 hours a day,” says Baboucarr Jallow, a community health nurse from the Gambia.
