Ducati donates $38,000 to Riders for Health
18 July 2008
Italian motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati, have donated $38,000 [£19,000] to Riders for Health, to help make sure health workers in Africa have access to the reliable transport they need to deliver health care to isolated communities.
The Bologna based company have been long term supporters of Riders. This donation was part of Ducati’s generous scheme which sees the company donate one US Dollar to Riders from the sale of each motorcycle.
Riders' chief executive, Andrea Coleman, said: ‘I would like to thank Ducati for this very generous donation. Their continued support for our work in Africa is an excellent example of the motorcycle community coming together to help make sure people in isolated communities receive the regular health care we all take for granted.’
Andrea continued, ‘This donation, which comes from the sale of motorcycles, means that the people that buy their motorcycles for fun here in Europe are helping health workers in Africa use motorcycles to save lives.’
The money donated by Ducati will help Riders ensure that health workers in the Gambia, Nigeria, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Kenya have access to reliable transport. By making sure motorcycles are properly managed, a health workers vehicle will never break down, and they will be able to reach thousands of people each month with regular, reliable health care.
