Ngwarati switches Zimbabwe for Daventry.
02 February 2007
Riders for Health’s former Zimbabwe program director, Ngwarati Mashonga, has recently moved to the UK after being appointed the new Field Program Coordinator in Riders head office in Daventry.
Ngwarati first got involved in with Riders in 1994 when, as an apprentice in Motorcycle Mechanics, he attended a week long maintenance course ran by Riders for Health. He joined Riders for Health in 1996 soon after qualification and worked his way up through the organization over the years in Zimbabwe. Ngwarati was Technical Manager in 1997, Transport Resource Manager in 1999, doubling up as a Deputy Program Director in 2000 and finally became Program Director in October 2001. At the same time doing his roles over the years, Ngwarati studied and completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Specializing in Transportation Economics) in his spare time.
After a very successful period as the Zimbabwe program director, overseeing 41 staff members 596 vehicles and motorcycles, Ngwarati was appointed to a post in Daventry in the Operations Department to help with the replication of Riders program to other countries in Africa.
Ngwarati said “This is a very exciting time to be working for Riders, we have a real chance to expand the work we do and to help even more people have access to health care, no matter where they live.”
Talking about how it feels to swap summer in Zimbabwe for winter in Daventry, Ngwarati said “things are very different to life in Zimbabwe but all the people in Daventry are very friendly, but the biggest difference is the cold!”
Everybody at Riders for Health is very please to be able to welcome Ngwarati to the UK and hope that he enjoys his time in Daventry.
